Ari’s Desire is an album centered on the interpretation of the great jazz standards, to which Paul Recchia alternates own compositions, the result of a long process passed through live performances and the comparison, and consequent enrichment, with great musicians like Alex Sipiagin, here as a special guest. In Ari’s Desire, dedicated to Paolo’s family, we can appreciate the intense style of saxophonist, which on one hand takes the path indicated by the great masters, proposing revisions thick “Tenor Madness” (Sonny Rollins) and “Everything I ‘ve Got “(Rodgers & Hart), the other expresses a strong personality in the songs in their own name. Especially in “Peace Hotel,” in which a slow introduction follows before an intense blend of sounds, unrelated conceptually, and then a trend overall peaceful and relaxed. The presence of Sipiagin raises the bar of expression of this work, bringing the overall sound of the trio, completed by the excellent and Nicola Angelucci Nicola Muresu, on large levels of cohesion, as in “Lazy Bird” (John Coltrane), passage flavor hardboppistico , the most intense and more focused in the lineup. Ari’s Desire confirms all the positive impressions that Recchia had aroused in recent periods, leaving listening for over an hour due to a conceptual approach devoted to tradition but, at the same time, able to express a personal vision of jazz.
